Perhaps the restoration of which we are most proud is that of Tadmarton House, a 19th century Italianate villa in North Oxfordshire.

Back in 1997, ‘the big house on the hill’, as it was known locally, was in a sorry state.  The roof had gone, the windows had rotted and vandals had made off with anything that could have remotely been called an architectural feature.  They’d even dug up the flagstones in the cellar.

The owner had had plans to restore the house and develop some of its 60 acres, but eventually he’d run out of both time and money.

We bought the house just as the local authority was preparing a compulsory purchase order.  And so began an ambitious restoration project of this 7,500 sq ft, Grade II listed house.

We salvaged what we could and faithfully copied what couldn’t be saved.  We sourced authentic materials and worked with the best craftsmen and over a period of two years we restored the house to its former glory.
